
Ilham Aliyev received EU High Representative
Rome/Baku [ENA] EU High Representative Kaja Kallas visited Azerbaijan on 25 April 2025 and praised the progress of cooperation, highlighting the importance of energy diversification and humanitarian efforts towards Ukraine. Kaja KALLAS, met Ilham ALIYEV, President of Azerbaijan, during her visit to Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, aimed to strengthen relations between the EU and this strategic partner.
During a press conference, Kallas highlighted the importance of Azerbaijan in the energy sector, underlining how the country has contributed to diversifying the European Union's energy supply sources in a global context characterised by unprecedented challenges. Azerbaijan is an important partner in the region, it is a valued energy partner of the European Union and together we have made significant progress in strengthening our ties. You have helped the European Union diversify its energy supplies and strengthen our energy security at a time when the world is facing unprecedented challenges.
There are vast opportunities for transport cooperation, Aliyev said. The parties also exchanged views on ways to ensure lasting stability in the South Caucasus, according to the statement. Aliyev said in this context that steps are being taken in the bilateral format and discussions on normalizing relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan are ongoing.
